Meena,
Somewhere in my garage is a box with early CPWO membership lists, newsletters, speakers, conferences etc. I was one of the original 16 and a member for many years. Please let me know if you are interested. irenar@netzero.net

I am George Sheldon, and I am one of the co-founders of the Central Pennsylvania Writers Organization (CPWO). Charles Byrd and I cofounded what became CPWO in the Fall of 1984. Our first meeting was held at Briarcrest in Hershey, PA.

I was recently contacted by Rita Morrow who was working on the history of CPWO for a new web site. I tried to give her as much information as I could.

When CPWO started, I had many credits, including magazine and newspaper articles. Today, I have 31 published books. I credit much of my success to CPWO. I wish the organization well.

I moved back to Lancaster, and so it is a bit of a trip for me to travel to Palmyra in Lebanon county. Nevertheless, I hope to get to more of the future meetings.

On my website, www.georgesheldon.com, I have some information about CPWO. Of most interest is probably this page: http://www.georgesheldon.com/byrd.html. It includes my tribute to Charles W. Byrd when he passed away. The photo on that page is the only one I know of that exists of Charles and I together.

I hope this helps. I hope everyone with any interest in wrting attends a future CPWO meeting!

My best,
George Sheldon

I've sent Meena a separate e-mail with more information. I am so pleased to see that CPWO is still meeting after all these years.

I am one of the original charter members, and served as the Vice-President and Membership Secretary for many years. During the late 1980's we enjoyed a strong membership base of 84 writers, which grew quickly from the original few.

Because of the size of our membership and their diverse writing interests, for a time the second half of our meetings were broken into sub-groups by genre. It was a wonderful, creative, and inspiring time, and the fellowship of so many others with a passion for writing was invaluable.

I have been a technical writer for 14 years now, but still hear the song of the soul for creative penning. If any of us old-timers can locate our original member logs, perhaps we can provide more history. I certainly have a lot of memories of the group.

Hi!
This is Angela Byrd, CPWO founder / co-founder Charles W. Byrd's daughter.
Rita, I just want you to know that I think you are doing a fantastic job revitalizing the CPWO and serving as President of the group.
You are truly keeping with Dad's vision! Thank you for honoring his memory by running CPWO and doing what you are meant to do, writing and keeping this talented group alive! Dad would be proud! I know my mother is very proud!
I have always supported CPWO and attended when I could though often my work in TV kept me busy but I am now doing what it is I'm meant to do by writing fulltime.
I am a published writer, lyricist, poet songwriter as well as a member of ASCAP as a writer and publisher. Currently I am freelance writing, promoting & booking, working on two books, song & lyric writing as well working with my sister Charla promoting & working on Dad's articles and writing.
I am also President & Founding Director of Global Peace Concert, Inc. a non-profit organization.
If there is anything I can do for you or CPWO, whether it be to sit on the Board, gather information, etc...I will. And, I will attend meetings when possible, please let me know the dates & times for the meetings.
Thank you for everything you are doing Rita! Keep up the good work!
Peace,
Angela Byrd
PS. I am so glad to see original member Margie Cullen is back with you guys! Dad is smiling about that!
